Measurement Tips

๐ŸŒ…
Measure in the Morning

Take measurements first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking, for the most consistent results.

๐Ÿ“
Use a Flexible Tape

A flexible fabric tape measure gives accurate circumference measurements. Keep it snug but not tight.

๐ŸŽฏ
Belly Measurement

Measure at the level of your belly button, while relaxed and breathing normally. Don't suck in.

๐Ÿ’ช
Arms โ€” Both States

Log both flexed (bicep fully contracted) and relaxed. Forearm is measured at the widest point.

Heart Rate

Measure resting heart rate after sitting quietly for 5 minutes. First thing in the morning before getting up gives the most accurate baseline.

๐Ÿ“ˆ
Blood Pressure

Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring. Keep your arm at heart level, don't cross your legs, and avoid caffeine for 30 minutes beforehand.

๐Ÿ“ธ
Consistent Photos

Same spot, same lighting, same distance each time for comparable progress photos.

๐Ÿ“…
Weekly Logging

Weekly measurements reduce daily fluctuation noise. You can log just weight one week โ€” the dashboard always shows your latest known value for every field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data safe? Can anyone else see it?
Your data is stored exclusively on your iPhone and never transmitted to any server. Nobody โ€” including us โ€” can access your measurements or photos. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How is body fat percentage calculated?
BodyTrack uses the US Navy Body Fat Formula โ€” estimated from neck and belly circumference plus height. Neck and belly measurements are required. This is an estimate; for clinical accuracy consider DEXA scanning.
What are WHtR, WHR, and BAI?
WHtR (Waist-to-Height Ratio) โ€” waist รท height. Target < 0.50 for most adults.

WHR (Waist-to-Hip Ratio) โ€” waist รท hips. Healthy targets: <0.90 (men), <0.85 (women).

BAI (Body Adiposity Index) โ€” estimates body fat % from hips and height. Calculated automatically when you have those measurements.
What do the blood pressure categories mean?
BodyTrack classifies BP as: Normal (<120/80), Elevated (120โ€“129/<80), High Stage 1 (130โ€“139/80โ€“89), High Stage 2 (โ‰ฅ140/โ‰ฅ90), and Crisis (โ‰ฅ180/โ‰ฅ120 โ€” seek medical attention). These are indicators only, not medical advice.
How do multi-person profiles work?
Tap the person button in the top-right corner of the Dashboard to add profiles, switch between people, or set a default. Each person's data, history, and photos are completely separate. Also manageable in Settings.
How do I switch between Metric, Imperial, and Stones?
Open Settings and tap the Units selector. Changes apply instantly across all screens โ€” Dashboard, Log, History, Charts, and CSV export. Your data is always stored in metric internally.
I only logged weight this week. Why do I still see all other stats?
The dashboard shows the most recently logged value for every field, even from older entries. Only the weight card will show a delta from your latest log.
How do I back up my data?
Data is included in iCloud or iTunes backups if enabled. You can also export as CSV from Settings โ†’ Export as CSV and save to Files, email, or share anywhere.
Can I edit a past measurement?
Yes. In the History tab, swipe left on any entry and tap Edit, or tap into the detail view and use the Edit button in the toolbar.
What iOS version is required?
BodyTrack requires iOS 17.0 or later for native Swift Charts support.
