Help, tips, and FAQ for TechnicTracker — LEGO® Technic Collection Manager.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of TechnicTracker

🔑
Get Your Free API Key First

TechnicTracker uses Rebrickable's free API to sync set data. Create a free account at rebrickable.com and copy your key from Profile → Settings → API Key. The app walks you through this on first launch.

📡
Sync Once, Browse Offline

After the first sync, the entire catalogue is stored on your device. You can browse, filter, and manage your collection anywhere — no internet needed.

📷
Use the Barcode Scanner

Tap the barcode icon in the catalogue to scan a LEGO set box barcode. TechnicTracker looks up the set instantly and lets you add it to your collection or wishlist.

📤
Share Your Wishlist

Tap Share on the Wishlist tab to export your wish list as a link or CSV. Share it with family ahead of birthdays or Christmas so they know exactly what to buy.

📝
Add Notes to Your Sets

Tap any owned set to open its detail page, then tap Notes to add information — build status, where you bought it, display location, or anything else.

Build Smart Lists

Go to the Smart Lists tab and tap the + button to create custom filtered views. Combine year, part count, owned, and wishlist filters to build the exact view you need.

Setting Up Your API Key

⚙️ Rebrickable API key required. TechnicTracker uses the Rebrickable API (free) to download and sync the Technic set catalogue. No subscription is needed — a free account at rebrickable.com is all it takes.

How do I get a Rebrickable API key?
  1. Go to rebrickable.com and create a free account
  2. Sign in and tap your profile icon → Settings
  3. Scroll to the API Key section and tap Generate Key (if you haven't already)
  4. Copy the key shown
  5. Open TechnicTracker and paste it in Settings → Rebrickable API Key
The app shows "API key is invalid" — what should I do?
This usually means your Rebrickable key has been regenerated. Log in to rebrickable.com, go to Profile → Settings → API Key, copy the current key, and paste it into TechnicTracker Settings. If you generate a new key on Rebrickable, the old key stops working immediately.
I pasted my API key but the sync fails — why?
Check that: (1) the key was copied correctly with no extra spaces, (2) you have an internet connection, and (3) your Rebrickable account is active. In Settings, tap Verify next to the key field to test the key before syncing. The clipboard paste button next to the key field ensures no whitespace is included.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sets are in the catalogue?
The catalogue includes 500+ LEGO® Technic sets from Rebrickable's database, covering sets from the 1970s to today. The catalogue is updated automatically whenever you sync, so new releases appear as soon as Rebrickable adds them.
How do I sync or update the catalogue?
Go to Settings → Synchronize and tap Sync Technic Sets. The catalogue is considered fresh for 24 hours — if you want to force an immediate update (for example after a new set release), tap Force Refresh instead.
Is the app completely free? Are there in-app purchases?
Yes, TechnicTracker is completely free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription, no premium tier, and no ads. All features are available to everyone.
Is my collection data private?
Yes. All your collection data — owned sets, wishlist, and notes — is stored on your device only using Apple's SwiftData framework. Nothing is sent to any server. TechnicTracker only makes outbound network requests to the Rebrickable API when you initiate a sync. See the full Privacy Policy.
How do I add a set to my wishlist?
Tap any set in the catalogue to open its detail page, then tap Add to Wishlist. You can also use the barcode scanner to look up a set quickly. Wishlisted sets appear on the Wishlist tab and are excluded from your owned count.
How do I share my wishlist?
On the Wishlist tab, tap the Share button (top right). You can share as a formatted text list or export as a CSV file. This is designed for sharing with family for gift ideas — no app needed to view it.
How does the barcode scanner work?
Tap the barcode icon in the catalogue tab header, then point your camera at the barcode on a LEGO set box. TechnicTracker reads the EAN/UPC barcode and searches the Rebrickable catalogue. If a match is found, the set detail page opens immediately.
What are Smart Lists?
Smart Lists are saved custom filters. Tap the Smart Lists tab, then the + button to create one. You can filter by year range, minimum/maximum part count, owned status, wishlist status, or any combination. Save as many as you like and access them instantly.
Parts are loading slowly — what's happening?
Parts data for each set is fetched from Rebrickable on demand and cached for 7 days. The first time you open the Parts view for a set, it downloads the data. After that, it loads instantly from the on-device cache. A good Wi-Fi connection speeds up the initial load.
How do I back up my collection data?
Enable iCloud backup in iOS Settings. TechnicTracker's data (SwiftData store) is included in standard device backups. When you restore or transfer to a new iPhone, your collection will be restored with it.
What iOS version is required?
TechnicTracker requires iOS 18.0 or later. It is built with SwiftUI and SwiftData and is optimised for iPhone.
Is TechnicTracker affiliated with the LEGO Group?
No. TechnicTracker is an independent app and is not affiliated with, sponsored, or endorsed by the LEGO Group. LEGO® and LEGO Technic® are trademarks of the LEGO Group. Set data is provided by Rebrickable.
